Materials: Bernat Dreamspun, 2 (1/2 oz) balls; Knitting Needles, 1 pair No. 1, 1 pair No. 3.
Gauge: 7 sts = 1″ 10 rows = 1″
Pattern Stitch: Multiple of 6 sts, plus 5.
1st Row: * K 5, p 1. Repeat from * across, ending K 5.
2nd Row: * P 5, k 1. Repeat from * across, ending p5.
3rd Row: K 5, * O, k 2 tog, k 4. Repeat from * across.
4th Row: Repeat 2nd row. Repeat these 4 rows for pattern stitch.
Bonnet: Starting at top with No. 3 needles, cast on 89 sts. Work in pattern stitch until piece measures 7, ending with 2nd row of pattern. K the next row, decreasing to 48 sts. Change to No. 1 needles and work in ribbing of k 2, p 2 for 1″, ending on wrong side of work. Change to No. 3 needles and at beg of next row, cast on 78 sts, k to end of row. At beg of next row cast on 77 sts, p to end of row. Work even in pattern stitch until pieces measures 3″ from cast – on sts. Bind off.
Finishing: fold work on third open-work stripe from each front edge at top of cap and sew two cast-on edges together to form points. With right sides of work facing, and starting where sts were cast on for ties, using No. 1 needles, pick up 116 sts around front edge to other group of cast-on sts. Work in ribbing of K 2, p 2 to within the last 2 sts. * turn, sl 1 work in ribbing as established to within the last 2 sts at other end. Repeat from * 4 times more. work on 116 sts in ribbing until band measures 1″. Bind off in ribbing. Fold band in half across back of neck and sew to wrong side. Trim ends with fringe.
