THE PATIENCE OF A MASTIFF
Going thru old Facebook posts and came across this video. One of our Cochin Bantam hens laid a clutch under our shed. Our 6 year old English Mastiff boy was fascinated… He figured out if he is still enough he could get pretty close….. The bantam chicks… were so tiny. They looked like Dandelion fluff. One gust of wind and they would be gone. And this huge, giant of a dog totally under their spell.
FEEDING CHICKENS MEALWORMS AND DARKLING BEETLES
Adding extra protein to the chickens diet Not much fuss to “grow” Purchase Mealworms from the local pet store Place in bin with oats, oatmeal etc. (grains) Add a couple slices of potatoe. Keep adding oats (or whatever you chose) as the worms eat and slices of potatoe as they dry up The worms will change into pupa…pupa into darkling beetles…Beetles lay eggs….and the cycle continues If the bin is kept in a warm place year round the cycle is quicker With very little work and alot of patients the mealworms will multiply….Expand into more totes….multiply… The chickens will love you
FIRST NEW CHICKS OF THE SUMMER
Cochin hen and her tiny chicks. When chicks are first hatched they love a bit of old fashioned oats and wild birdseed. We had such a mild winter here there’s an abundance of bugs this year.
