FLORIDA KEYS
Last November we took a road trip to Miami. Everyone had days off for the Thanksgiving weekend and we wanted to see the Keys. Couldn’t live in Florida and never experience the Keys. After a good nights sleep in Miami we were up at sunrise ready to go. Pearl was on her perch… and looking a little leery. Seems like every time she goes on a road trip with the whole gang…. we end up at a large body of water. She hates water. And I’m sure she can sense the large amount of water around us…even if she can’t see it. Traffic thru the Keys was a steady stream of cars… moving at a steady pace… and we had a ways to go to make it to mile 0. There were spots where you could pull off and take a look around. AMERICAN WIND SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA
Pulling into Pahokee Marina allowed us our first glimpse of the great Lake Okeechobee… But we also caught sight of this… Long… silver… Shining in the sun. Come to find out it has an amazing history. Designed by Louis I. Kahn in the 70’s for Maestro Robert Austin Boudreau who had a dream of bringing music to everyone. He would hire young musicians and they would tour the waterways of America, Caribbean and Europe. It’s 195 ft long and has a stage that opens. People would bring lawn chairs and set up by the dock and enjoy an evening of music. If they get it up and running again we’ll be making another trip down to Lake Okeechobee. WEBB’S CANDY FACTORY – DAVENPORT FL
Going thru Davenport, Fl on US 27 on our way to Lake Okeechobee… We had to make a U-turn. Lactose Intolerant ? There’s Goats Milk Fudge. Want to watch your sugar intake? Diabetic ? There’s Sugar Free. Tables after tables of unique and specialty candies. And homemade hand dipped Ice Cream. Salt Water Taffy… Made right here. Behind the scenes… A little History…. It’s a family owned business. They have been making candy since 1945. An old Citrus Candy Cutter. And look! Chocolate Alligators. They come in every flavor you can imagine. We went with the chocolate bars… The Dark Chocolate Bar tastes like a rich dark hot chocolate. The Orange Chocolate Bar reminds me of a candy at Christmas as a child. The White Chocolate Bar is one of the best white chocolates we’ve tasted. Webb’s Candy Factory
