PEARL THE COCKATOO – KRISPY KREME DOUGHNUTS
Pearl loves “human” food…. But she is very picky which “human” food. The only doughnuts that we have found she wants is Krispy Kreme… Plain… Glazed. She’ll turn down every other doughnut if you offer it to her. She demands hamburger…. but only 100% Angus Beef… No cheap McDonalds cheeseburger for her. She will look at you like…. “You want me to eat that?” Corn, Peas, Mashed Potatoes (Not Instant), and any pasta cooked or uncooked. If we fry up some chicken she keeps reminding us that she gets the leg bone… she loves the marrow inside the bone. I’m sure if she were in the wild she would eat her seeds, nuts, berries and veggies… But I know that she would be one that raids the trash bins for the junk food.
THE PATIENCE OF A MASTIFF
Going thru old Facebook posts and came across this video. One of our Cochin Bantam hens laid a clutch under our shed. Our 6 year old English Mastiff boy was fascinated… He figured out if he is still enough he could get pretty close….. The bantam chicks… were so tiny. They looked like Dandelion fluff. One gust of wind and they would be gone. And this huge, giant of a dog totally under their spell.
PEARL THE COCKATOO – A LITTLE STARSHIP?
We know that Pearl loves her 80’s Rock She has a perch between the two front seats. Rockin’ down the road to Lake Okeechobee.
AMERICAN WIND SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA
Pulling into Pahokee Marina allowed us our first glimpse of the great Lake Okeechobee… But we also caught sight of this… Long… silver… Shining in the sun. Come to find out it has an amazing history. Designed by Louis I. Kahn in the 70’s for Maestro Robert Austin Boudreau who had a dream of bringing music to everyone. He would hire young musicians and they would tour the waterways of America, Caribbean and Europe. It’s 195 ft long and has a stage that opens. People would bring lawn chairs and set up by the dock and enjoy an evening of music. If they get it up and running again we’ll be making another trip down to Lake Okeechobee. WEBB’S CANDY FACTORY – DAVENPORT FL
Going thru Davenport, Fl on US 27 on our way to Lake Okeechobee… We had to make a U-turn. Lactose Intolerant ? There’s Goats Milk Fudge. Want to watch your sugar intake? Diabetic ? There’s Sugar Free. Tables after tables of unique and specialty candies. And homemade hand dipped Ice Cream. Salt Water Taffy… Made right here. Behind the scenes… A little History…. It’s a family owned business. They have been making candy since 1945. An old Citrus Candy Cutter. And look! Chocolate Alligators. They come in every flavor you can imagine. We went with the chocolate bars… The Dark Chocolate Bar tastes like a rich dark hot chocolate. The Orange Chocolate Bar reminds me of a candy at Christmas as a child. The White Chocolate Bar is one of the best white chocolates we’ve tasted. Webb’s Candy Factory
— LAKE OKEECHOBEE — FLORIDA ROAD TRIP
July in Florida…You don’t stray far from air conditioning or the pool. If you want to do something outdoors…and your not at the beach… Its at the crack of dawn or right before sunset. If you get alittle stir crazy… jump in the car… air blasting… and drive! 6:30 Saturday morning found us on the road… Our goal: Lake Okeechobee. The largest lake in Florida. The 8th largest lake in the US. We live in Central Florida near the Gulf of Mexico and a stones throw from a beautiful chain of lakes. For amateur photographers these areas of water provide a plethora of photo ops. They are always teeming with human, animal and avian activity. So…camera batteries charged…memory cards empty…lenses packed… Anticipation is high. A 4 hour drive… on small roads… thru small towns in South Central Florida. Stuckey, Mascotte, and Dundee…taking pics along the way… Interesting Artwork… Good eats…
GROOVIN’ TO SOME 80’S TUNES.
Pearl was a rescue so we don’t know her age or her past… We discover it as we go along. She loves old black and white tv series like The Andy Griffith Show, Leave it to Beaver and Dennis the Menace. She also knows Disney movies and gives a chuckle at the right spots.Loves kids and looks longingly at older ladies. Sometimes its heartbreaking when on our outings she experiences something from her past.A familiar car….. a face that reminds her of someone…. Orlando around Disney…. When she realizes it’s not the car… or the person she is looking for… or driving away from Disney… Her eyes are sad… She blanks out for awhile…. Remembering that part of her life … the people that she loved but can’t find.
ROAD TRIP!!
Pearl loves her road trips…look at that face. Happy Sunday everyone.
PEARL THE COCKATOO SAYS “HELLO THERE….”
Pearl meeting a bronze statue at Fernandina Beach. She thought he should give her a scritch… Maybe a pat? Giving him a nip… Just to see if he’s awake.
